Skyla L. Greene, is a native Bastropian, graduating from the class of 1991. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and her Master’s in Education (Guidance/Counseling) from Texas Southern University. Prior to working for BISD, Ms. Greene served as a State School Liason for Harris Co. Mental Health Mental Retardation Local Authority (MHMRLA).
Ms. Greene has served in the district for 10 plus years in several different capacities, BMS Coach, inclusion, LifeSkills, and Self-Contained teacher. For the last couple of years, she served as the Resource ELA teacher at Bastrop Intermediate School and their Beyond the Bell Site Coordinator.
Students can be referred to the counselor by his/her parents or may sign up to see the counselor in the office. Students presenting a concern within the school may be referred by staff members. If regular, continuing counseling is needed, a parent permission form will be sent home. Counseling services provided in the school are usually of short duration to facilitate students’ readiness to learn; students needing additional counseling should seek assistance outside of the school.
